Information for Newcomers to the SCA

The Barony of Cynnabar welcomes you!!!

Special greetings go out to all University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University and Washtenaw Community College Students!!

The Baronial Webpages provide a lot of information about our the SCA and our group. In fact, we have compiled a special webpage that covers what the SCA is all about:

Our group has a special ambassador for newcomers who is available to provide any assistance that may be needed. Please see the office webpage for contact information and more useful information:

Our group is open to all people interested in either learning more about the Middle Ages, Renaissance, or earlier periods in history or like to recreate history or both. Due to our group's location and history we are particularly interested in getting students from the various local universities and colleges involved. Many of our group activities are held at UofM or WCC which makes it very convenient for students to get involved with the group.

To make it easy for newcomers to get involved, in addtional to lots of information the group provides newcomers with loaner gear they can use until they are able to acquire their own. We have loaner garb/clothes, which we call Gold Key, so newcomers can attend events as well as loaner armour so that newcomers can participate in our martial arts fighting programs. Many members also have other resources like feast gear, craft tools, books, and additional garb or fighting equipment that they are willing to share with newcomers. We would like to make it easy for newcomers, particularly college students with limited funds, to come to our group activities and participate.

There are many other additional sites provided by the SCA and other groups that provide information that a newcomer may find useful. Please find them listed below.
